SC 600 – Contemplative Prayer & Meditation

COURSE INFORMATION

The Christian Counselor is a source of spirituality for his or her clients.  He does not only advise, heal, and guide, but enriches the soul he counsels.  SC 600 covers the supplying source for this spiritual spring which is prayer.  In particular, the course delves into Christian Meditative prayer.   The course emphasizes the rich tradition of Christian meditation which is based on Scripture and Jesus Christ the door to union within the Trinity.  Avoiding Eastern ideals of meditation, this course draws a clear line between what Christian union with God is and what Eastern union teaches.   In addition to experiencing and practicing these spiritual exercises, the course gives an academic background in Christian mysticism and prayer by reviewing some of the most notable Christian mystics throughout history.

From the early Christian fathers to Medieval times to the modern era, the course covers sixty notable mystics of all Christian denominations.  Through this brief run through history, you will enrich your knowledge of the mystics and the saints but also become more familiar with their story, their writings, and their meditations. Course Code: SC 600. Contact hours of education = 50.

Pre-requisite: you must have successfully completed SC 570 and SC 580, and SC 590 before you may enroll into this CE course.
